Gresham's Sad Face

When Gresham was only a few months old, he started doing this terribly sad expression mainly whenever he heard something he didn't like - such as Aidan screaming or being silly. I have been trying to get this on film, and yesterday I got some good ones! Gresham was whining, and I started whining back at him, and this is what he did. Really it should be on video because still pictures don't quite capture the effect of the quivering lip and the tears and the mournfully sad expression! Then he did it again last night as Grandma's house when Aidan and Grandpa were flying G.I. Joe airplanes around the room and making airplane noises. If Gresham is in a good mood, he has no problem with most sounds, but if he is tired or has just woken up, the least little thing will bring on this sad face!

Some more fun conversations...

Today Aidan and I were eating lunch, and he asked me, "Mom, when I get bigger, how will I get a husband because boys don't have babies??"
"What???" I said.
"Someday you'll have a wife. You will be the husband. Or did you mean a daughter?"
"Yeah, a daughter."
"Well some day," I told him, "you will meet a girl that you want to marry and she will be your wife. A LOOOONG time from now. And then if you and your wife have a baby and its a girl, that will be your daughter."
"Well, when I find a girl that I want to marry I will tell her she's going to marry me, because she won't know."

Good plan, son.

Later, in the car...

"Mom, how can Jesus be at Abby and Anna's house and also at our house?"
"Well, Jesus and God don't have bodies like ours. God is a spirit, so He is everywhere at one time."
"Yeah, 'cause Jesus is super light. When I die and go to heaven He will hurt my eyes. I'll have to close them. (big pause) How does Jesus see where He is going?"
"What? Um, I don't know"
"I guess the light doesn't bother Him..."

Silly Boys

Three Year Old Theology

It has been raining a lot here lately. A lot. Everything has been soggy for weeks and highs are in the low 80's - unusual for late May in Texas! The other day, our plans were changed because of a rainy forecast, but it ended up not raining. I told Aidan, "I guess it's didn't rain today after all."
"Yeah," he said, "I guess God forgot it was going to rain today!" I explained that only God really knows (and controls!) what the weather will do - the weather man on TV is just making an educated guess.
So, today was another rainy day. We were out in the van and Aidan said, "I didn't know it was going to rain today, but God knew. He's the one who makes the rain start and then rain harder."
Maybe we're learning something!!

Grandma's name isn't Grandma???

Today we had a surprise party for my mom's 60th birthday. The boys and I left the house early to go by her house (she wasn't home) and pick up some photo albums that I thought would be fun to have at the party. Aidan was amazed when I told him that Grandma was born 60 years ago.
"Was I a baby then?" he asked. I told him no, that Grandma was much older than him. In fact, Grandma was 56 when he was born. He then asked if 56 was old enough to walk! Obviously, he has no concept of age or large numbers!!
Then he asked if the people who had Grandma (that would be my grandparents) were trying to think of a name when she was born and they came up with "Grandma." I laughed and told him what her name was. It's fun to get glimpses into how his 3 year old mind works!!
The party was a success, Aidan had fun playing with a friend, and the ladies at the party enjoyed this story!

Playing at the park!

Often when Jordan works the closing shift at work, I take the boys to the park for the evening. Tuesday evening we loaded up and went to play in the sand! (This made two nights in a row of sand... what was I thinking?) I got some good pictures, though.
I can't figure out how to make the pictures go where I want them to go, so I guess this type will be at the bottom and all the pictures at the top.
Gresham enjoys being outside, although all he can do at the park at this point is swing. He does love swinging though!

While we were at the park, we met the brattiest boy I've seen in a loooong time. He was 3 and barely verbal. He got two of Aidan's trucks out of Aidan's sandbox toy box before Aidan had a chance to get anything out. Aidan did a reasonably good job of sharing with him, and I intervened when the boy refused to give back one of his trucks. Then he started flinging sand at Aidan. First, it was an accident, and then when Aidan asked him to stop, he started flinging it at him on purpose. We decided to pack up our toys and leave the sandbox. By this point, I had finally figured out which mom belonged to this little angel - a lady serving Taco Bell for dinner who hadn't stopped talking on her cell phone the whole time we had been there. We moved on the the playground equipment, and the boy followed us over. He now had a stick in one hand and was chasing after Aidan. I couldn't tell if he was trying to hit him with the stick or was going to throw it at him. I finally got right in front of the kid and asked him to get away from Aidan. (Aidan was most impressed by this!) A few minutes later, Mom took a break from her phone call to ask him to put the stick down. He told her, "I dinnit do it Mom! I dinnit put it down!" Well, that really foiled her plan and she went back to talking. When we finally left the park, brat boy was throwing bark chips at his older brother. When we got to the car, I pointed out to Aidan that this boy was pretty much able to do whatever he wanted. I asked Aidan if he thought the boy was happy, since he was obviously doing whatever he felt like doing. Aidan said, "No, he's angry. He just wanted to hurt people." I was glad for the opportunity for him to see that God's way is truly the best way. People are not happy when they are sinning without restraint. We were made to glorify God, not glorify ourselves by pursuing our own wants. I told Aidan that we discipline him because we love him and we want him to experience the joy of pleasing God! I forgot to do this that night, but I want to help Aidan to pray for this boy that he would have an opportunity to see who God is.

We've joined the blogging bandwagon!

If I'd known this was free, I would have done this long, long ago!! My children, especially the older one, sure provide plenty of material for a blog...

Take tonight, for instance. We went to the park to play in the sandbox with Aidan's new sand toys. He has been dying to use them. The sand immediately stuck to his little sweaty body, which I had planned on, but what I hadn't planned on was the foul smelling puddle (well, puddle is a bit of an understatement) that he decided to play in. And then he got back in the sand. We had to strip him down in the parking lot and he rode home in his underwear. He asked me if there was dog poop in the puddle, and I don't know if there was, but he sure did smell. When we got home I had to clean him and then clean the tub and then fill it back up and put him back in with Gresham to do another round.
At least he'll sleep good tonight! I hope! I wish I had a picture of this, but I didn't have the camera with me... The picture at the top is Aidan and Gresham entertaining each other. It is so fun to see them starting to have a relationship as brothers. Gresham thinks that Aidan is hilarious!
Now that I have a blog, I will have to take more pictures to post!!
