Life with Three

So, I haven't quite gotten the hang of managing three children yet. Here's how our morning went today...

We are taking Aidan to a Suzuki violin institute later in the week, so we needed to go shopping for things to pack in our lunches. I wanted to go to Target last night, and that didn't happen, so we really needed to go today. My plan was to let the boys watch Curious George, feed Owen, and then leave. Curious George comes on at 9:00. At 9:30 (end of George...) Owen was still sleeping, despite my attempts to wake him. Finally at 9:45, he woke up and starting eating. While I fed him, Aidan and Gresham fought over Thomas trains.

Something started to smell, and so I asked Gresham if he was poopy. He said no. After a few minutes, the smell hadn't dissipated, and so I checked. He was in fact poopy. So, then I had to discipline him for lying.

Mom: Gresham, Mommy asked if you were poopy. What did you say?
Gresham: I said NO
Mom: Yes, and are you poopy?
Gresham: No, I am NOT.
Mom: (baffled) You really think you are not?
Gresham: Yes, I am NOT.
Mom: There is poop in your diaper. How did it get there?
Gresham: Aidan did it.

Why am I reasoning with a 2 year old? I have no idea... I put Owen in his carseat, and we moved on to putting on shoes. By now it is 10:30. I asked Gresham to go get his shoes. He never returned. Aidan went to find him and Gresham had gotten out all of Aidan's money from his wallet on top of their dresser and was putting dollar bills down in slots in the step stool. Maybe coins too - I didn't go in there to find out. So now Owen is crying in his carseat, and Gresham is crying because he is in trouble about the money. I announced that we were giving up and not going to Target. This made Aidan cry about not having things to pack in our lunches. So, I gritted my teeth and said, fine, we would try again.

At 11:15 we were finally arriving at Target. Only an hour and a half behind schedule, not too bad...

We'll miss them when they're grown...

Woodworking

We bought some cheap scrap wood at Home Depot, and the boys can't wait to get started building things! Gresham wants to build a "ship to float in the water" and Aidan wants to make some kind of pen for his toy animals.

Tonight they learned how to hammer a nail. We only had a few instances of thumbs getting hit!

Take my picture, Mom!

Owen is One Month Old!

Our first month with Owen has flown by! He has changed so much already. Overall, he is a very easy baby, but he is challenging his parents with big chunks of alert time in the middle of the night...

Owen is a very smiley baby, but he doesn't smile at us yet! He doesn't quite focus on our faces yet, but it's coming soon. He smiles at our voices and at nothing in particular (or at least nothing that we are aware of!)

Owen enjoys no shortage of affection from his admiring older brothers. We'll see how long that lasts once he can take their toys and chew on them!

This is a video of Gresham eating bread that he spread mashed potatoes on... enjoy!

Owen is 3 Weeks!

This is a very Owen look...

He's starting to fill out a little!

Tonight when I went to give him his bath, he fell asleep on the towel while I was getting the water ready. He woke up quickly once he was in the water!

Gresham Funnies

The other night, we had Tyson Chicken Patty Sandwiches for dinner. Real healthy, I know, but it was easy... Anyway, Gresham was in the middle of one of his many tantrums, and Jordan asked him if he wanted his chicken sandwich on a bun. Gresham said through his tears, "I want my chicken patio sandwich on a bun with another bun on top!"

Tonight I took Gresham to Cabela's, just me and him. He thought that was a nice treat. On the way in we saw a boat. He said, "That's a speed boat!" "Yes," I said, "How did you know that it was a speed boat?" He answered very matter-of-factly, "Because it is made in China!" I'm not sure where that came from, but probably from Aidan. Now that he can read, he is always telling us which toys were made in China...

Owen's Bath Time!

Here is Owen at Two Weeks Old!! We think his hair is starting to show some signs of red! Well, at least his eyebrows are red, so we'll see...

Aidan's Arm

So, Jordan and I have joked during the spring wondering what wild things would happen during the first couple weeks after Owen was born, because we had such adventures after Gresham was born. The week Gresham was born, we had fire ants IN the house. They got into Aidan's bed on multiple occasions, including one incident in the middle of the night in which I was up feeding Gresham and Jordan and Aidan were up changing his sheets and trying to squish fire ants without getting bit. Fun times. Later that week, Aidan fell in the kitchen while playing "tiger" and knocked four teeth loose. I was still on driving restriction after my c-section, but thankfully Jordan was home to take him on an emergency dental visit.

Which brings us to to this past weekend... Aidan played at a friend's house on Friday afternoon and fell while having a race. He landed on some toys on a carpeted floor. His friend's mom carefully checked out his arm, and nothing looked seriously wrong, but she let me know when she brought him home that he had not been using the arm all afternoon. We checked out his arm, and he screamed every time we touched it. To make a long story short, we ended up waiting until the next morning and then went to the children's hospital because it wasn't any better. We were very thankful to the Lord that it wasn't broken, but just dislocated, and after the doctor popped it back into place, he was fine!

On Sunday night, we went to an all-church picnic, and Aidan played in the bounce house all evening. A friend of ours saw him in the bounce house and said, "Aidan, be careful with your arm!" His response was, "Oh, I don't have to! The doctor said I don't have to be careful!"

Yep, that's my Aidan!

Owen is 2 Weeks Old!

...And I should probably have some pictures to accompany this post, but I don't... tomorrow for sure.

Today I took Owen to his two-week-old doctor visit. He weighed 6 lb. 14 oz, which was just past his birth weight, so that was good! He has gained 10 oz. since we came home from the hospital.

Aidan came with me to "help," and did a great job. He is really growing up and behaving older, especially when Gresham is not around.

Owen is sleeping in 3 to 4 hour stretches at night, which is great! Although last night he was up more often and wanted to eat almost constantly from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m... We'll get into a routine soon now that we hopefully have the most difficult two weeks behind us.

Side note - Yes, I know I need to remove the countdown baby from the sidebar of the blog... I'll do that soon too! Who knew that it would start counting back up after the due date???
