Yes, Sir!

Tonight Gresham and I went to the library to get some books and movies to entertain Aidan while he still has the flu. Gresham took his shoes off, which is his favorite thing to do while riding in a shopping cart or stroller. I put them in the stroller basket. A few minutes later he asked, "Where are my shoes?" I told him, "I put them in the stroller basket." He responded loudly for all to hear, "NO! Don't put them in the stroller, Mommy! That's disobeying God!"

We have told him that when he disobeys his parents, that he is disobeying God, so I guess that was the strongest thing that he could think of to correct me with. But what I don't get is why he cares where I put his shoes??? Did he want me to carry them around? Leave them on the floor? Who knows. I think he mainly just likes to think that he is the one in charge, which he isn't.

Makes me wonder what God thinks of the irrational ways that I act at times when I'm thinking that I'm in charge...

Popsicle!

This may have been Gresham's first-ever popsicle. We don't buy them that often because Aidan is not a big fan of them (he prefers ice cream) and Gresham doesn't like things that are fruity. This week they both have the flu, and so I bought some all-fruit popsicles. Gresham said today, "I want a green one!"

"A green what? A green popsicle?"

"Yes! ...what is a popsicle?"

So after that, he chose purple, and made it through about half of it!

I'm praying they make it to adulthood...

So it turns out that I have not one, but two sons who are always right. When in doubt, they ignore Mom's years of experience and go with their own knowledge... The other night, I was reading Gresham a board book about baby animals.

Me: Look, that's a baby horse. It's called a foal.
Gresham: No, actually (actually???) it's a horse.
Me: Well, a baby horse is called a foal.
Gresham: No, it's actually a HORSE.
Me: Here is a baby sheep. It's called a lamb.
Gresham: No, actually it's a sheep.

He did have to agree when we got to puppies and kittens, because he already knew about those.

Aidan smacked his head on a piece of furniture today while doing a cartwheel in the living room. This was about 30 min. after he arrived home from the neighbor's house, where he almost sustained a serious injury with a bungee cord. Something in his little 5 year old head told him that it would be a good idea to jump off of their playset while using a bungee cord across his neck to slow his descent. It hurt pretty bad, and he came home all shaken up about it. I have told him to never EVER put things around his neck, but he is a boy who must learn the hard way sometimes.

Oh Lord, please preserve them until they have some sense!!!!

Yea!!!!

We have fallen below 100 days! Only 3 more months until we meet our son! (Although I suppose it could be sooner... but Lord willing he'll stay put!)

Aidan

It must be so fun to be a 5 year old boy!
The other day, Aidan was pushing on my belly and then looking at my back to see if the bulge would pop out my back. I assured him that it would not. He then went on to say, "Well, at least when the baby gets here, he can tell us what it looked like inside your tummy!"

Scenes From Our House

This is what Gresham does when we ask him how strong he is...

Gresham playing dart guns. He loves to get in on the action when Jordan and Aidan play dart guns, but he still can't cock his own gun. He has, however, learned how to do the nerf ball gun all by himself, so that works.

Aidan has quiet time in his room every afternoon while Gresham is napping. The other day, I went to get him, and this is what I found...

Aidan's writing

Aidan has really gotten better at writing lately, and his spelling is so funny. I love this stage...

The other day, he was carrying our Target shopping list (on a clipboard), and he was writing words on the list. My favorite was "groj" - garage.

Then yesterday my mom brought him a bunch of pew prayer request cards and little envelopes from church. She was helping clean the sanctuary, and these were things they were going to throw away. Today he made one card into a "business card." It says, "iF your Tolit is broecin col 8171234567 tok." Translation: If your toilet is broken, call 817 123 4567 talk. He knows you have to hit the "talk" button on the phone.

It's funny to see his spelling, because it shows me how he hears things!

It's a Miracle!

Today was quite miraculous. I almost hate to write about it, because then it will probably never happen again... (not really).

Gresham has been in quite the discipline-intensive stage lately. There is just so much training that must be done for a two year old! He has recently learned how to get out of bed by himself, and now wakes the house up at 6:55 every morning and then whines the whole time I'm in the shower. And Aidan is, well, Aidan. Refer to my post from a few days ago.

But today was amazing! I got up, took a shower, came out to the living room, and found that the boys were playing quietly in Aidan's room! I was shocked. They were actually working together to play something imaginative that did not involve fighting or crying! I was wondering who these strange children were! I fixed breakfast in relative peace and quiet. After breakfast, we had Bible time, and then a private cello lesson with an adult student. The boys are usually VERY disruptive during this student's lesson because it's just her, and no one comes along to talk to them. Today, I told them to play in Aidan's room, and I specified which toys to play with, and that they were not to come out. That doesn't usually stop them, but today Aidan did not come out once! Gresham did, but he's 2, and he went back to the bedroom when I asked him to.

After the lesson, we went out to get the oil changed in the van. I brought along goldfish and schoolwork. Aidan sat quietly the whole time doing his schoolwork and watching the Gameshow Network on the TV. Gresham climbed on some tires, and when I asked him to come to me, he said, "Okay!" and happily obeyed. I fainted and had to be revived! (just kidding)

When we got home from the oil change, Aidan asked Gresham to play with him, and Gresham said, "No, I'm getting my diaper changed!" I looked, and he was laying down in his room next to the box of wipes. This is the boy who sometimes has to be disciplined for not coming when I call him to change him!

After lunch Aidan commented, "Mom, I prayed for God to help me obey today, and He really helped me!"

We just finished our second violin lesson of the day, and they both played outside with no fights or anything! Dad will be so glad to come home and find happy obedient boys instead of a lot of problems to deal with...

I'm sure we will be back to struggles as usual before long, but it sure is encouraging to have a break from the defiance!!!!

Crazy Hair Night

Last night was crazy hair night at Awana. Aidan was thrilled - last year he had pinkeye and didn't get to go. I was hoping that his hair was long enough to stick up, and it was! He was very happy with it!
