Hymns from the Perspective of the 21st Century...

The other day, we were singing "Amazing Grace" during Bible time. I told Aidan a little of the story of John Newton (who wrote Amazing Grace) and how he was a slave trader until he came to know Christ. I asked Aidan, "So now that you know his story, what do you think he meant by 'I once was lost, but now am found'?" Aidan said, "Oh! He means he was lost from God, and now he is found from God. I used to think when we sing that that he was lost on a walk or something. I knew he wouldn't be lost driving, because he could just type it into his thing (meaning a GPS)."

Maybe his grasp on history has a ways to go, but I'm glad to see him understanding the hymn!
