Today was quite miraculous. I almost hate to write about it, because then it will probably never happen again... (not really).
Gresham has been in quite the discipline-intensive stage lately. There is just so much training that must be done for a two year old! He has recently learned how to get out of bed by himself, and now wakes the house up at 6:55 every morning and then whines the whole time I'm in the shower. And Aidan is, well, Aidan. Refer to my post from a few days ago.
But today was amazing! I got up, took a shower, came out to the living room, and found that the boys were playing quietly in Aidan's room! I was shocked. They were actually working together to play something imaginative that did not involve fighting or crying! I was wondering who these strange children were! I fixed breakfast in relative peace and quiet. After breakfast, we had Bible time, and then a private cello lesson with an adult student. The boys are usually VERY disruptive during this student's lesson because it's just her, and no one comes along to talk to them. Today, I told them to play in Aidan's room, and I specified which toys to play with, and that they were not to come out. That doesn't usually stop them, but today Aidan did not come out once! Gresham did, but he's 2, and he went back to the bedroom when I asked him to.
After the lesson, we went out to get the oil changed in the van. I brought along goldfish and schoolwork. Aidan sat quietly the whole time doing his schoolwork and watching the Gameshow Network on the TV. Gresham climbed on some tires, and when I asked him to come to me, he said, "Okay!" and happily obeyed. I fainted and had to be revived! (just kidding)
When we got home from the oil change, Aidan asked Gresham to play with him, and Gresham said, "No, I'm getting my diaper changed!" I looked, and he was laying down in his room next to the box of wipes. This is the boy who sometimes has to be disciplined for not coming when I call him to change him!
After lunch Aidan commented, "Mom, I prayed for God to help me obey today, and He really helped me!"
We just finished our second violin lesson of the day, and they both played outside with no fights or anything! Dad will be so glad to come home and find happy obedient boys instead of a lot of problems to deal with...
I'm sure we will be back to struggles as usual before long, but it sure is encouraging to have a break from the defiance!!!!
